Screen Shot 2014-08-22 at 3.24.31 PMWho are Alex Voices? Alex Voices is a mixed choir for parents, staff and past pupils of Alexandra College. The choir, previously know as the ACA choir, began in September 2011 and now has over 30 members, with a good mix of men and women. The choir is always open for new members. Come join one of our four voices – sopranos, altos, tenors and basses. There is no audition required, just the desire to participate and have fun! The repertoire spans from 16th century right up to the present day – classical, traditional and popular. Rehearsals Alex Voices meets at 19:30 on Tuesday evenings during school term.  Rehearsals take place in in the junior school building and last for 2 hours. People generally arrive a few minutes early for a chat and a break midway for tea/coffee and biscuits gives people more time to chat, catch up/get to know each other.  A small subscription per member pays for coaching, music and sundries. Why join Alex Voices? “The choir was such a great way for someone new to Ireland to get to know parents at my daughter’s school. I’d forgotten how much i love singing. I really enjoyed being part of this group.” Vicky Bailey, USA. Music is a thread that runs through school life in Alex, bringing a special richness and Alex Voices is the way for parents and those associated with the college to be part of that. Alex Voices is about the pleasure of making music together in a fun and sociable way while creating a special link to the school and school life. It is a great way for parents existing and new to get to know one another. In addition to being fun, making music has great health benefits. “I find choir as good as a yoga class. The exercises we do for breathing and posture really help to relax and singing is a workout! Focusing on the singing helps to forget the everyday stresses and relax. A real treat!” Marie Coleman, Dundrum Choir Director – Liz Foster  Liz has vast experience in directing choirs and as Head of the Music Department in Alex, she has taken many of our daughters for choir and solo singing over the years. Liz has an expertise and passion for music and conducting that will be a very welcome asset in the continued development and success of Alex Voices.   Performance & Competitions The choir performs several times a year at various events, both in the school and elsewhere. And most importantly – the social events!  The choir is very active socially throughout the school year. The group comes together for a couple of major social events such as the Christmas Party and Summer BBQ as well as several more informal get togethers after performances or to mark the end of terms. It is a relaxed and friendly group where any newcomer is quickly made feel at ease, so do come along. unnamed-3 unnamed-5 For further information on joining the choir please contact: Michelle Gibbons    Liam Lenehan
